Atheism is a Religion, Un-Christianlike Christians in History, Killing Christians in Video Games (for now), Religion, Superstition, Irrationality & Magic, Children Born Atheists?
Response to comment: "Atheism is not an ideology. It's simply a denial of supernatural gods. You can't really do anything 'in the name of atheism'. There is no dogma, book or manifesto."
Atheism is a religion. Many atheists organizations register as religious organizations (e.g. in the U.S. as a 501ce). Man is made to worship. When you do not worship God you do not worship nothing, you worship something else (e.g. self deification, wealth, lust, etc.). Man fills the void with his own god.
Response to comment: "[Defend yourself against the inquisition...stop a crusade."
Many people throughout history have acted un-Christian naming the name of Christ but not following his teaching. "Cultural Christians" do the same today. Some of the most dangerous false teachers are in the organized churches today. These same churches killed Christians throughout history. Read: Reformation Time Line.
Response to comment: "[W] might be atheists, but going back and killing religious figures [in video games]? Seems like a bit much to me. Pretty hateful. Kind of stooping down to the level of religious fundamentalists."
It might come to that--a day when Christians are dragged out of their churches. It is the liberal who is intolerant of dissenting views. Who are the "tolerant" ones? Christians or atheists shooting Christian leaders in video games? First, the liberals took the churches (e.g. turning them into bars and stores). Next, they will take the Christians out of those churches. When liberals call Christians intolerant they are doing what psychiatrics call projection.
Blogger "Strappado" dislikes the Pope. The Pope teaches people to practice a religion. Christianity is faith in the person of Jesus Christ not "religion" per se. The gospel of salvation by grace by faith is not taught in the Roman Catholic church. It is a religion of works like all religions of the world. Christianity is not work-based but faith-based. " For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God (Eph 2:8, NASB)."
Response to comment: "Atheism removes religion, superstition and irrationality. It's almost magic."
Faith in Christ is freedom from religion. Read the book of Galatians. Christianity is faith in the person of Jesus Christ. It is not "religion" but a "relationship". All world religions are work-based. Christianity is faith-based. Christians are freed from the bondage of sin, in other words the domination of sin in their lives.
Faith in Christ is freedom from superstition. Paul rebuked the heathen pagans for their superstition: "You men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious (Ac 17:22, AKJV)."
Faith in Christ is freedom from irrationality. "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Ti 1:7, AKJV)."
Faith in Christ is not magic: "Behold, I am against your magic bands (Eze 13:20, NASB)." Christianity is life. " For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (Jn 3:16, NASB)."
Response to comment: "All children are born atheists."
Children are born in sin (in Adam) but they are not atheists. "[Unbelievers] who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law...the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them (Ro 2:14-15)." Man can sear his conscience. But with each new child there is hope. The cycle starts again, as a child on his own accepts or rejects God: "Ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law (Deut. 32:46, KJV)." If we have the misfortune to be born to wicked parents, we are to reject their teachings (Eze 20:18). There is hope for each child.
