ARJ Highlights

Scientific research is a crucial component of biblical creationists’ desire to glorify the Creator. Because we live “in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation” (Philippians 2:15), mistaken assumptions about evolution over millions of years have led to erroneous interpretations of the data. So to follow God’s injunction to be “blameless and harmless” and “shine as lights in the world,” we must reevaluate the data in light of Scripture. That is why Answers Research Journal was started in 2008.

Our goal is to bring together some of the finest minds in creation research.

The goal is to bring together some of the finest minds in creation research to provide the best possible insights about God’s work since Creation Week.

ARJ stands apart in several ways. As a free online journal, it quickly distributes some of the newest findings in creation research. And each paper can be published in color, without a page limit. As an online publication, it can add new papers whenever they are ready.

Below is a taste of the newest insights you can gain from reading ARJ.

Determining the Ark Kinds

As the Ark Encounter in Kentucky is being developed, researchers are looking more closely at the question, “What animals constitute a kind?” The first in a series, this paper explains how the different kinds will be displayed in the Ark Encounter and the reasons behind the groupings. The majority of the “original kinds” classifications will be determined from known examples of hybridization, supported with other grouping methods.

See “Determining the Ark Kinds” by Jean K. Lightner, Tom Hennigan, Georgia Purdom, and Bodie Hodge.

Comparing Chimp and Human DNA

It is often claimed that human and chimpanzee DNA is 98–99% similar. By using advanced software, Jeffrey Tomkins, a genetics PhD research scientist at the Institute for Creation Research, compared chimpanzee and human DNA and found that it is at most 86–89% similar, depending on the comparison criteria.

See “Genome-Wide DNA Alignment Similarity (Identity) for 40,000 Chimpanzee DNA Sequences Queried against the Human Genome is 86–89%” by Jeffrey P. Tomkins.

Simulations of Post-Flood Weather

The creation model suggests that huge super-hurricanes, called hypercanes, developed in the years after the Flood, often remaining in place for years, dumping water on the interiors of the continents. Larry Vardiman, a PhD atmospheric scientist at the Institute for Creation Research, conducted computer simulations with Dr. Wesley Brewer of Fluid Physics International. Their simulations show what two modern hurricanes off the east coast of North America might have become under the unique, warm-ocean conditions after the Flood. Such studies can help us clarify the dramatic weather conditions that animals and plants faced as they resettled the earth after the Ark landed.

See “Numerical Simulations of Hypercanes Charley and Fay in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico over a Warm Ocean” by Larry Vardiman and Wesley Brewer.

Origin of Morality

If God used evolution to bring about our world today, as many Christians believe, it creates insurmountable problems for explaining human morality. The author claims that, if this scenario were true, mankind’s spiritual and moral nature must have come about through physical means. But the physical cannot produce spiritual. Without God’s direct influence, all spiritual things, including morality, are impossible.

See “Can Theistic Evolutionism Explain the Origin of Morality?” by Callie Joubert.
