American Taliban?

Noam Chomsky, a famed linguist and political commentator, recently made some malicious claims about Christians in America.

Is the United States more fundamentalist than the Taliban? That’s the contention of famed MIT linguist (and political commentator) Noam Chomsky. He said in an interview aired on Iranian TV, “The U.S. is a very fundamentalist society, perhaps more than any other society in the world—even more fundamentalist than Saudi Arabia or the Taliban.” He based his claim on the supposed fact that “about half of the [American] population believes that all living species were created 6,000 years ago.”*

First of all, Chomsky got his facts wrong: almost half of Americans polled by Gallup believe that God created the first people within the past 10,000 years, but many of these same people believe that animals evolved over millions of years. Second, even if Chomsky’s figure were correct, what relevance would it have in establishing a connection between the violent, murderous Taliban and America’s peace-loving, Bible-believing Christians?

Chomsky has resorted to outlandish, made-up statistics to attack the Christian faith and link it to extremists of the worst sort.
