An Amazing Life

Blessed with extraordinary oratorical skills and considerable charm, parliamentarian William Wilberforce could have made a strong bid to become prime minister of Great Britain 200 years ago. But as the February [2007] release of the major film Amazing Grace will reveal, Wilberforce cast aside personal ambition for higher aspirations.

This devout, Bible-believing Christian led the courageous effort to abolish the slave trade throughout the British Empire. But the legacy of this Christian was not only in the political realm of abolition; he left another well-known legacy. He transferred his biblical beliefs to his son Samuel, who in the famous 1860 debate defended the Genesis account of origins against evolutionist Thomas Huxley.
