Catholic Guilt

Response to comment [from a Catholic]:  "[I] told this fallen away Catholic once (yrs ago) that [I] felt guilty about something or other... (cant recall what)...[sic]"

Did you drink the memory away?

"[H]e said simply "Catholic guilt"..."

Men should feel guilt. They have missed the mark (sin). All are dead, all are guilty--all are condemned (Rom. 3:23). In that condition we face an eternity separated from God. We can't do a thing to change those facts (Rom. 5:12–14; Gal. 3:22).

God has a standard that you can't keep. Your religion is a system that tries to keep God's standard but you will fail (Jude 11). Salvation is rescue from that desperate situation. God offers the gift of life (Eph 2:8-9) not based on what we do but based on what he has done (Ro 5:8). All you need to do is say "yes".

Justification by faith launched The Reformation. Your church stopped teaching that. They began teaching that men could work their way to heave or buy their way to heaven. Not so (Jn 15:5). If you are going to be blessed, you need a savior (Mt 5:3). Admit that you are in fact: wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked (Re 3:17). Beltz.

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "[G]uilt is good..."

Beer and wine takes care of that; doesn't it Catholic? Eph 5:18

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "If you don't feel guilt for having wronged the Spirit living within you..."

First, you need the spirit of God (Job 33:4).

"...[T]hen you should be alarmed as the Sprit convicts us of sin..."

The Spirit withdraws from incorrigible sinners (Gen. 6:3; Deut. 32:30; Psa. 51:11; Prov. 1:24–28; Jer. 7:29; Hos. 4:17, 18; Hos. 5:6; Hos. 9:12; Matt. 15:14; Luke 13:7; Rom. 1:24, 26, 28).

"Most people die by 30 but we don't bury them 'til 65 or so." ~ Mark Twain

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "...His Spirit is always "around" to guide them into the right choices."

"Lk 19:44 — “ … you did not know the time of your visitation.”

How is it that the vast majority of people alive in Jesus’ day did not realize that they were in the presence of God in the flesh? More to the point, do we realize it when God is doing something special in our midst?" Stanley, Charles F.: The Charles F. Stanley Life Principles Bible : New King James Version. Nashville, TN : Nelson Bibles, 2005, S.
Lk 19:44

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "Well, that's a start. At least you're acknowledging that the Spirit convicts believers of immorality."

The Holy Spirit testifies of Christ (Jn 15:26). Believe him.

No priest can absolve you of your sin.

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "[W]e are ALL created in His image - not just those of a particular belief system..."

God didn't say he so loved the world that he forgave everybody. He said he so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (Jn 3:15-16).
