Caveman Confusion:  Publisher’s Pen by Dale Mason

When you were a child, were you told about cavemen and ape-men and missing links? Of course you were. And when the hazy ideas of your teachers, your textbooks, secular media, and natural history museums were mixed together, did you come away thinking they were all basically the same thing? I did.

It was only through the careful teaching of several creationist scientists that I came to understand that cavemen and ape-men and missing links were three immensely different things. How you and your family perceive these ideas is a very important key to how accurate you will believe the Bible really is. And friend, that’s foundational to your Christian faith.

As I was proofing the “cavemen” section of this issue, I was reminded how surprised I had been back in high school when a man at our church taught a special creation/evolution series to the youth. He showed some of the bias of our textbooks by using a portion of a jawbone and a skull fragment to demonstrate that a lot of artistic license goes into any illustration of cavemen and their supposed place on the path from ape-like creatures to humans. From those limited artifacts he first drew a very hairy beast, then a modern man. And he helped us to see that both ideas were derived from the same evidence. The only thing that was different was the perspective that the artist brought to his sketchpad! That truth echoes throughout the pages of the issue you now hold.

“As evolution and millions of years continue to pervade the culture, evangelical leaders are seeking new ways to merge the Bible with those views. Sadly, the church at large is enthusiastically embracing their proposals as gospel truth (see page 31). It’s never right or wise to follow man’s word as the final authority. God’s Word is still the final authority, and He expects His people to daily compare all teachings to His Word (Acts 17:11).”

Who were the cavemen? And where does the Ice Age fit in relation to the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Abraham, and the rest of the Bible? The cavemen section tells you!

And as usual, this issue is about much more than just what’s illustrated on the cover. Young children (and their parents!) are going to love learning about God’s amazing designs for creatures far below the surface of the ocean. You’ll be fascinated by our coverage of current events, and I trust by many of the other articles as well.

We truly appreciate your support of this unique, award-winning magazine. I hope that you will continue to find it worthy of subscribing—for yourself and perhaps even for a few others!

All for Him,

P.S. Be sure to share this issue with a friend. It’s an easy way to help build the faith of those you love!
