Cedarville University

Established in 1887 in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is a non-denominational institute for more than 3,000 students.

Cedarville is one of the few Christian universities with a science department that endorses the biblical view of creation. Part of the school’s origins statement reads:

Because our rational abilities are finite and we are affected by sin, we must be careful that our interpretation of natural revelation is consistent with [God’s] inspired and written revelation, the Scriptures. Having taken this position on God’s revelation we believe that the universe, solar system, earth, and life were all created recently by an omnipotent, omniscient God during six literal 24 hour days, as described in Genesis Chapters 1 and 2, and as referred to in other Biblical passages.
Our approach to science and origins is based on the presupposition that our highest and ultimate authority is the unchanging Word of God. We do not base our position of origins on our current understanding of the theories of science and mathematics which are subject to change.

This university’s academic departments include nursing, education, music and art, business administration, communications, athletic training, biblical education, and engineering. Cedarville has been ranked by US News as one of the top 25 colleges in the Midwest for the past 5 years.

Dr. Georgia Purdom, speaker and researcher for Answers in Genesis, is a 1994 graduate of Cedarville. She has very fond memories of her experience there. She said, “The Christian environment at Cedarville was very important in helping me develop a biblical worldview. The lessons I learned there will stay with me the rest of my life.”

Dr. John Whitmore, a contributing writer to and science editor of Answers Magazine, is associate professor of geology at Cedarville. He and many of his colleagues at the university are involved in creation research and teaching.

Answers in Genesis is pleased to recommend Cedarville University as a Bible-upholding school. Visit them at www.cedarville.edu for more information on the university.
