Charles Spurgeon—Reloaded: Introducing the Spurgeon sermon series by John UpChurch, AiG–U.S., and Larry and Marion Pierce

Charles H. Spurgeon

The works of Charles Spurgeon have inspired millions of Christians around the world for over a hundred years. His wisdom and insight into God’s Word and world have helped others discover the richness of Scripture. However, as with any work after a century, Spurgeon’s language can be a barrier for the modern-day world, and this makes his work seemingly less accessible or even “outdated.”

Answers in Genesis and Larry Pierce—who’s behind the Online Bible software, the translation of James Ussher’s The Annals of the World into modern English, and the upcoming translation of Isaac Newton’s works—along with his wife, Marion, want to give Spurgeon’s sermons new life. Thanks to the Electronic Bible Society (EBS) in Texas, Larry and his wife were able to update these sermons, not to change the meaning, but to make them more easily understood by modern readers.

Beyond just typographical corrections, the text of each sermon has been updated. For instance, many words that are now obsolete have been modified to modern equivalents, and in some instances, the word order has been modified slightly when necessary. If the words could not be changed, footnotes or inline explanations have been added to clarify expressions or historical references that a modern reader might not be familiar with. In addition, concerning areas in which Spurgeon could not have known what we now know, these sermons have been updated to reflect current thought; however, the original text is also included so that you can see what was changed.

To help with referencing, each sermon now contains paragraph numbers. So, you can easily find your favorite section or share it with others.

Finally, all the sermons have been meticulously compared against the originals (as photo reproduced by Pilgrim Publications in Texas) and carefully proofed by David and Eleanor Pohl. This assures that the version you read adheres as closely as possible to the original intent—but updated so that the sermons can be enjoyed for years to come.

Sermon postings can be found in our Get Answers section. We hope that you will set aside time each day to study the Bible through the words of the “Prince of Preachers.”
