The Chilcot Inquiry – also known as the Iraq War
Inquiry – was set up in 2009 by then Prime Minister Gordon Brown to examine the
UK’s involvement in Iraq.
Its remit has been to examine the way decisions were
made both before and during the
US-led invasion, what actions were taken, and identify what lessons can be
learned.
The time-frame covered includes the run up to the
start of war in 2003, to when British combat troops were removed from Iraq at
the end of July 2009.
Some 179 British service personnel were killed in Iraq
during the conflict, and tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians died..." Full
