Creation in the Lions’ Den

A creationist booth is seeing attitudes change in one of the most unlikely places.

The National Education Association is the largest union in the United States, representing 2.7 million teachers in government schools. For decades, the NEA has advocated radical liberal causes and has blatantly opposed biblical values in the classroom.

Despite its official anti-God agenda, evidence of grassroots change is afoot.

For many years now, creationist teachers and other volunteers have manned a popular booth at the NEA’s huge annual conference. In the beginning the opposition was severe, but attitudes have been changing, as the Lord opens eyes through the materials and the consistently gracious spirit of the creationist attendees.

This year in San Diego, there was a record number of Christian and creation-based booths. One even boldly referenced Colossians 1:16: “For by Jesus Christ all things were created.”

Against all expectations and past experiences, this was the greatest year for the creation message. The organizers of the largest creation booth report that it has never had so much support, not only from the other booths, but also from the convention hall’s security team. Over $65,000 worth of material was given free to teachers, including the new Charles Darwin Bible (printed to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the publication of Origin of Species).

The recent NEA national conference is yet another example of God uplifting His name, so that we may sing, “Your name, O Lord, endures forever, Your fame, O Lord, throughout all generations” (Psalm 135:13).
