Last August the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved selling the morning-after pill, or “Plan B,” without a prescription to women over 18 years of age. Plan B claims to be a high dose of birth control and should not be confused with the RU-486 pill, which kills a baby.¹ Some Christians, however, are still debating whether Plan B ends a baby’s life (i.e., it could kill an embryo before it becomes implanted).

Even with these questions, the FDA’s decision leads to greater repercussions. For example, some European countries that have already made this drug available without a prescription report no decrease in pregnancies or abortions but a rise in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).²

Plan B is a way society deals with immorality, but Christians should be teaching “Plan A,” which is God’s command to keep oneself for marriage and not to take a baby’s life once it has begun.
