[Does the Truth Save? Biblical Authority Devotional: Infallibility and Inerrancy of Scripture, Part 9 by Jeremy Ham] There is a reason why the inerrancy of God’s Word is always under attack. It started in the Garden of Eden, when the serpent deceived Eve by twisting God’s Word (Genesis 3:1). Satan did not want them to follow the truth. If they would have followed God’s truth (in Genesis 2:16–17) instead of Satan’s lies, they would have been saved from dying (i.e., they immediately died spiritually and would eventually die physically).

Adam and Eve received only one command with given repercussions from God, but that was enough for the serpent to twist in order to help bring about humanity’s destruction. To God’s glory, humanity did not end there in the Garden of Eden, as God foretold in Genesis 3:15 that through the seed of the woman, they could be saved. This is the truth—the gospel—that Satan does not want us to know.

As 2 Thessalonians 2:10 states, Satan would rather us glorify in the deception of unrighteousness and perish rather than receive the truth of the gospel. This was true back in the Garden of Eden, as it was when this passage in Thessalonians was written—and still is true today. All it takes is questioning just a small part of God’s truth in order to doubt God’s Word entirely. We have more of God’s Word than Adam and Eve had, and we need to remember that all of it is from God, and it is His truth. We cannot let any doubt arise about the inerrancy of Scripture, as that leads toward destruction.

The truth does indeed save:

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, (Ephesians 1:13, ESV)

We need to keep this truth in the forefront of our minds, so we will always remember how important it is that Scripture is God’s inerrant Word! http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/2010/07/20/truth-save
