Yes the earth is ‘much’ older than man.

Lucifer was here before Adam and Eve were created by God. The earth was dark and void, and was ‘refreshed’ when they were created. It was dark and void because of Satan’s rebellion towards God.

What has God been doing for all of ‘His eternity’? Sitting on His throne twiddling His thumbs until He decided to create us 6000+ yrs ago? Man is truly egotistical, to say the least, to think God has been doing nothing until He created man. I find that hard to believe, nor did He give us all the answers, but enuf to be able to make intelligent decisions about past eternity.

No wander scientists/evolutionists and Christians have a fit about Creation. None of you have it right, and it gives evolutionists a field day, so to speak. God must get a chuckle at all this nonesense going on down here.

I assume you’re referring to the feedback article “Dinosaurs, Man, and the Bible,” which I authored in May. What aspects were confusing or “kindergarten,” if I may ask? In it, I tried to very clearly explain our view on three of the most contentious issues our ministry deals with:

• How long ago did dinosaurs live?
• Why do we believe dinosaurs and man lived side-by-side?
• What is the relationship between science and Scripture?

Why not instead name where and why my explanations were so insufficient?

You’re joining in the chorus of those who elevate fallible, human-devised dating methods (which rest on the assumption of naturalism) over the clear words of Scripture. For those of us who revere God’s Word as our epistemological starting point—our axiom—human reasoning and ideas can only be true if they comport with Scripture. Thus, we can just as easily respond that the earth isn’t much older than man (only about five days, to be precise!); what’s more, we have scientific facts that can be interpreted in support of this view.

Assuming by your words you consider yourself a Christian, let’s examine whether your beliefs comport with Scripture. The idea that Lucifer was on earth before (and specifically millions of years before) Adam and Eve is not found in Scripture; nor are similar ideas such as “Lucifer’s Flood” or that Adam and Eve’s creation was God’s second go-around (a “refreshment”). Likewise, the idea that earth was dark and void because of Satan’s rebellion is entirely contrived and unscriptural.

And not only do these ideas have no basis in Scripture (instead being eisegetical—reading in what we want the Bible to say); they outright contradict other verses. For instance, according to your view, was God lying or just forgetful when He looked over everything He had made and called it all “very good” on Day 6 of Creation Week?

As for what God was doing before Creation Week—for all of “His eternity,” as you put it—we have to address a misconception here. Your comment suggests that eternity past stretches millions and millions of years ago, such that God endured a long period of time before deciding to create life on earth six thousand years ago. This ignores the fact that God created time during Creation Week, which is why Creation Week was “in the beginning”; otherwise, the Bible would be in error if Creation Week was actually infinite time after the beginning!

Also, one could just as easily use your argument against the idea of old-earth creation; why would God wait billions of years before creating life “in His image” and actually enacting His plan for salvation if Jesus was slain “from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8)?

Yes, man is truly egotistical; we certainly agree. However, what is more egotistical—to take God at His Word or to try to tell Him what He “really meant”? If God said plainly that He created in the first six days of the very first week, and if the genealogies in Scripture clearly trace this event back to about 4,000 years before Christ (and thus 6,000 years before present), then aren’t we being egotistical if we dispute that?

God has not given us all the answers; in fact, based on the Bible, we can intelligently understand that God has chosen to not yet reveal what may have happened in “past eternity,” other than the existence and fellowship of the Trinity. He was not compelled by any outside force to create life or mankind (nor because of boredom), but He chose to create us and give us life.

We will readily admit that we may be wrong about some of our specific scientific interpretations—but God is not wrong about what He has taught us in His Word. And sadly, God’s attitude toward earth these days is probably more similar to His attitude in Genesis 6:6 than to a chuckle.

Ultimately, S.D., I must ask why you feel there’s such a problem with believing in a young earth—and thus why you adhere to such unscriptural ideas as the Gap Theory. Is it because you believe Scripture clearly teaches these ideas, or is it because you are compromising God’s teaching with the supposed scientific “facts” of secular scientists?
