Even though nobody had raised any legal concerns, Judge Joe Dale Walker of Mississippi ordered the names and addresses of all homeschooled students within his district. When parents discovered his overreach of authority, they contacted the Home School Legal Defense Association. The HSLDA immediately filed a complaint with the state supreme court, and within a few days (April 20), the court stayed the judge’s order.
Since 1983, the HSLDA has fought hundreds of cases to uphold the God-given, constitutional rights of Christian families to educate their children, including biblical creation. Yet protecting these hard-won freedoms demands constant diligence.
