How Does 'Mockery', Insults etc Encourage Anyone To Listen Or Change Their View?

Response to comment [from other]:  "If you're going to debate a topic then surely it's the issue at hand that needs to be addressed? Why would anyone listen to someone who can't debate without ad homs and a bunch of smileys?"

Flipper called me a typing clam. I thought this was pretty accurate.

It encouraged me to keep listening.

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "My thoughts are that you like to spend an inordinate amount of time complaining about how other people post."

That's true. You do whine too much, bunny.

Response to comment [from a Christian]:  "When a discussion, or debate begins to devolve into mockery or name calling, a mature Christian must remember:  "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. - Matthew 7:6."

Good point. We may be called upon to present the dust from our feet as evidence against them (Matt. 10:14, 15, Re 20:11).

"...[S]hake off the dust from your feet. It was common for Jews to shake the dust off their feet—as an expression of disdain—when returning from Gentile regions. Paul and Barnabas also did this when expelled from Antioch (
Acts 13:51). This was a visible protest, signifying that they regarded the place as no better than a pagan land." MacArthur, John Jr: The MacArthur Study Bible. electronic ed. Nashville : Word Pub., 1997, c1997, S. Mt 10:14
