He decided to save her. Her so-called husbands weren’t husbands at all (Rom. 7:2, 3) [John the Baptist got his head chopped off for pointing out illegal marriages (Mark 6:17, 18, Matt. 14:3–12)]. She had looked for love in all the wrong places and needed a savior.

Of course she could have. She believed; however, and was saved. God gives everyone a choice to live or die (Jn 3:16). He won't demand love. John MacArthur says that that leaves the choice up to each individual. Well, of course it does. We know his will--it's for each person to be saved (2 Pe 3:9).
