King David:  Past, Present & Future

Response to comment [from a Christian]:  [David]

It is a great honor to have been chosen by God (Jn 15:15-16; 1 Jn 2:27), as David was.  As David was anointed king, we have been anointed as believers.  David is a Christ-type so if we would like to know how to be--how to please God, I think we can look at the life of David. He was giving and skillful. (Ps 78:71-72); He sinned but agreed with God about his sin and he repented (Ps 51:1-4, 10-13), He became a leader (1 Sam 22:1-2); He lead and accepted God's mission (1 Sam 17:44-45); He was hunted, dogs at his feet (1 Sam 24:1-22); He was anointed (2 Sam 2:4-7).

Ps 23 reveals much about David.  v.1, "I shall not want." David desired God's will.  v.2,  He makes me to "lie down", leads me to "still waters".  God can give us calm in the midst of a storm.  He will supply our needs.  David knew this.  He had faith. v3, He leads me in the path of "righteousness".  We care about righteousness as God does when we love him.  v4, "My cup [of thanksgiving] runneth over."  David praises God.  We should too. v5, "And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." David knew he was saved.

I like the friendship that Jonathan had with David:  "Then Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God (1 Sa 23:16).  That is the very definition of friendship!
