Mormon Church Admits Founder Had 40 Wives

[Mormon Church Admits Founder Had 40 Wives Proclaiming the Gospel Ministries] "The Mormon church has admitted that founder Joseph Smith married about 40 women, including a 14-year-old and some wives of his followers. Mormons have tried to gloss over aspects of its history, including the polygamy practiced by Smith and Brigham Young. The church banned polygamy in 1890 when the U.S. government threatened to deny Utah statehood. Read more." Pro-Gospel.org

Old news to Mormons and people who have studied Mormonism. The rest won't care.

Are you upset that he had 40 wives instead of only 4?  What number of wives is the cutoff point to be acceptable to you, and why?

The Holy Spirit still prefers a man have one wife. Men have progressed beyond him.

"New morality is just old sin." ~ J. Vernon McGee

What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body [1 Cor. 6:16–18].

"My friend, you cannot live in immorality and serve Christ. Unfortunately, we find that public opinion generally accepts immoral persons; but God does not accept them."

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s [1 Cor. 6:19–20].

"Here is a remarkable truth which many believers have not received. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Because our bodies belong to God, we are not to share our bodies in fornication..." McGee, J. V. (1991). Thru the Bible commentary: The Epistles (1 Corinthians) (electronic ed., Vol. 44, pp. 73–74). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.

"1 Co 6:16 one flesh. Paul supports his point in the previous verse by appealing to the truth of Gen. 2:24 that defines the sexual union between a man and a woman as “one flesh.” When a person is joined to a harlot, it is a one flesh experience; therefore Christ spiritually is joined to that harlot.

6:17 one spirit with Him. Further strengthening the point, Paul affirms that all sex outside of marriage is sin; but illicit relationships by believers are especially reprehensible because they profane Jesus Christ with whom believers are one (John 14:18–23; 15:4, 7; 17:20–23; Rom. 12:5). This argument should make such sin unthinkable." MacArthur, J., Jr. (Ed.). (1997). The MacArthur Study Bible (electronic ed., p. 1737). Nashville, TN: Word Pub.

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "The verses you quoted are about having sex with harlots. Do you assume every wife is a harlot?"

Sure, why not (Isa 5:20, Prov. 5:3–20, 2 Ti 3:1-5).

"Anything more than one husband in a lifetime is considered adultery in the Bible, unless the previous husband died before the woman remarried."

That's correct.  Serial adultery is forbidden.

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "Why would anyone want to read a paper by Piper for a position on divorce and remarriage?  I have yet to see anyone present the exegetical truth of scripture instead of indoctrinated and presumed silliness that they've inherited."

For good bible teaching (Eph. 4:11).

It's all about you.
