My Ignore List! Behold

Housekeeping thread about the ignore feature on TOL

Response to comment [from a Satanist]: [Ignore lists]

How does the 'ignore list' work?

"Why did someone dig up this old chestnut?"

Me. I didn't want to start a whole new thread.

Response to comment [from a "Christian"]: "I don't have anyone in the iggy bin..."

It doesn't matter, does it? Because e-mail instant notifications don't work. Am I right?

"I don't know what you mean."

I write at another site also and when you post there, you get an instant e-mail notification of a response. TOL doesn't have this. What is the purpose of the ignore list? Isn't it for not receiving responses from certain members?

"As I said, I've never used it, but I believe that when you put someone on ignore you don't see any of their posts. It isn't just for receiving responses from them."

Strange.

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "There are times when I click on a thread and every poster will be on my ignore list."

You don't see the posts from the people on ignore?

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "My ignore list is modified or deleted quite often but there are those who go right back on it."

It changes your display mode?

"?...I modify my own list and then it modifies my display of thread posts the way I want it modified."

You like this feature?

"Yes, it helps keep me out of trouble."

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "I'm sure I'm on somebody's ignore list, that's okay..."

Graniteheart says: "...[T]here are some people on my ignore list who don't know it!" link

How would he know that they know?

Response to comment [from a Christian]: [It doesn't matter, does it? Because e-mail instant notifications don't work, right?] "I don't know what you mean."

Instant e-mail notification is a feature that works at most forums. It doesn't work here at TOL.

The other site that I was speaking about got hacked. Maybe that happened here.

"Interesting. When I read your posts I often start hacking."

The other site is very similar. When it crashed, it lost all information. I got to log on with a new user name.

It's difficult to follow up now because you don't know if someone has responded to a post.

"Reason for sky's deleted post: "Not worth my time"?..."

I expect this to show up in your small observations thread.

"It's frequently difficult to know when you've responded to a post."

This forum is not conducive to follow-ups. As I said, the other forums have a functioning e-mail notification. I'm not sure why TOL's no longer works.

A few housekeeping items:

Often, I don't respond to a post--simply because I am unaware of your response. Don't take it personally.

"I can't help but be fond of you most of the time."

I'm aware of this.

Be on the look out. She carries tarot cards. I invited her to discuss this with us at TOL.
