Please Pray For Me

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "I spent pretty much the day yesterday reading about Hell...quotes from various saints, from Our Lady of Fatima, etc...I've been fretting about my salvation, and I've been in pretty much constant fear of the prospect of hell over the last two days.  I went to confession today, only to realize that I had forgotten something. Which led me to fret even more today.  I've wept I know not how many times; I feel emotionally exhausted.  Please pray for my soul.

[A Christian shares the truth] ...I didn't start the thread to argue about Catholic or Protestant theology. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind.  I'm asking you all to pray for me."

God commands you to repent (Eze 18:30-32; Ac 17:30) but you won't (Jude 11). Clearly, there's a lower low that you need to sink to be saved (Re 3:17).

Response to comment [from a "Christian"]: ...[T]hank God for his son who came to reedem us..."

What do you mean by "son"? Jn 1:1 What do you mean by "us? Jn 1:12

He's not a Christian (
2 Pe 2:1). God does not hear him (Pr 15:29).

Good luck with that (
Jn 17:9).

Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "The only reason I made the thread, in spite of the fact that most people on here are Protestants, is because I believe that prayers can make a difference. I read how at Fatima, two girls died. Our Lady said that one went to heaven, but the other deserved Hell. Because of the prayers of all those who were at fatima, Our Mother interceded to God, and because of all of those prayers, that girl ended up in Purgatory instead.

I'm not interested in debate on the topic. I'm not interested in what people think about me.

I just want to know that lots and lots of petitions are going up to God on my behalf."

There is no Purgatory.

No Purgatory

People have shared the truth with you. Too bad you seek the approval of men not God.

"In John 12 verse 42, "Many even of the rulers believed in Him...intellectually...but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him lest they should be put out of the synagogue...and listen to this...for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God." You see, becoming a Christian is loving God and loving Christ and loving the gospel and loving the approval of God more than you love anything else..." Full text:

You are a coward (

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "Catholicism is great, eh?"

Oh yeah, that's going to work out well.

Catholics are modern-day Pharisees:

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged to perform it.’ Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold nor the temple that sanctifies the gold? And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obliged to perform it.’ Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? Therefore he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it. He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it. And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and shave neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’

“Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt. Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell? Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. Mt 23:13-36

Response to comment [from a Christian]:  "To the rest of you taking this man's crisis and using it to bash the Roman [C]hurch..."

By bash do you mean telling the truth? Ga 1:6-8, 4:16. This person has no interest in repentance (Ac 7:51). Christians take their prayers lists seriously.

"You are putting a barrier to Christ and should be ashamed of yourselves."

You coddle him.  Why do you get in the way of the Holy Spirit doing his job? Jn 16:8-11

"Is that how you came to know Jesus?"

The Lord draws people to himself in different ways.  For some, that will include tragedy.

"Christ never insulted those who were in pain but when they came to him..."

He has not come to him.  He's made it clear that he has no interest in the gospel of grace  (Ac 14:3; 20:32).

"...Learn to be Christ to Trad."

He's lead by man (Matt. 15:9).  He may need more difficulty if he is to be saved (Mt 7:14).

Response to comment [from a Catholic]:  [VC quote: Did it occur to you that those "bashing" the Catholic Church are not doing so to hurt Trad, but to help him?] "Did it occur to you that, when you start taking pot shots at Catholicism when Trad is on his knees..."

Who is taking pot shots? Ga 4:16

Muslims get on their knees to pray daily, too. Are they going to heaven? No. There is no Allah. There is one Lord, Jesus (
Jn 14:6). Muslims pray out of fear. They can only hope that they will be good enough to make it to heaven (Ro 3:12). They live lives of fear.

All religions of the world are work-based. Christianity is faith based (
Eph 2:8-9). We are anxious for nothing (Phil 4:6).

"...[I]t just shows despicable character and motive on your part..."

You are the despicable one--you just don't know it (Re 3:17). A worm needs to struggle a little to become a butterfly (Mt 7:14, Ga 6:15, 2 Co 5:17).

"It's really a joke that you've convinced yourself that such action is charitable."

The most charitable thing we can do is tell the truth (1 Tim. 6:3–5, Jude 11).

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "Ya know serpentdove, you sure like to type a lot and hide insults in scripture. Eph 4:29..."

Traditio's work-based gospel will not save him (Gal. 1:6–8). Jesus saves (Isa 63:9; Eph 5:23). Jesus alone saves (Isa 45:21,22; 59:16; Ac 4:12).

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers [Eph. 4:28–29].

"“Let him that stole steal no more.” Man by his sinful nature is a thief as well as a liar. When I was a boy, I ran around with a mean gang of boys—I was the only good boy in the crowd, of course. During watermelon season, we stole watermelons. The farmer might have given us one out of his patch, but they tasted better if we swiped them. We also stole peaches and apples from the orchards. And in the winter-time we would steal eggs and take them down to Old Buzzard Creek and roast them. There wasn’t anything that was safe from us.

After I was converted, I still had this impulse. In fact, once I was going to visit a man who had a marvelous watermelon patch by the side of a country road. I was so tempted to take one of his watermelons that I actually stopped and got out of the car. Then I thought, “Wait a minute. I am going to see the man in a few minutes. He’ll give me one. There’s no reason for me to do this.” I got back in the car and drove off. When I told him my experience, he laughed. “You know,” he said, “I might have shot you if you had gone into that watermelon patch. I’ve had a lot of thieves in there stealing my watermelons, and they are pretty valuable today.” Stealing is in our hearts. We are just naturally that way. Paul says here that we are to steal no more, even when it may look as if it is all right.

“But rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.” The believer is not to get rich for his own selfish ends. Rather, he is to help others with whatever he has that is surplus. Today there are many fine Christian ministries that lag and wilt for lack of funds. Why? Because many believers are accumulating riches for themselves and are not giving as they should give.

“Corrupt communication” means filthy speech—that which is rotten or putrid. An uncontrolled tongue in the mouth of a believer is the index of a corrupt life. Believers who use the shady or questionable story reveal a heart of wickedness. What is in the well of the heart will come up through the bucket of the mouth. The speech of the believer should be on the high plane of instructing and communicating encouragement to other believers. You can have fun and enjoy life—humor has its place—but our humor should not be dirty or filthy." McGee, J. Vernon: Thru the Bible Commentary. electronic ed. Nashville : Thomas Nelson, 1997, c1981, S. 5:259

"I'm sure no one has been built up by your comments or have any received grace from it."

To be built up we must first come to the end of ourselves. It takes brokenness and humility to become a Christian (Mt 5:3, Isa 61:1)."

"You have only come half way if you are broken and ask for forgiveness....Confession without possession can lead to depression." ~ Micheal Yousseff Jer 31:34, Ps 103:12, Isa 1:18, 1 Jn 1:7

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "I may not like Trad very much, but I do love him. He is my neighbor, and I do not want to see him suffer..."

God does not give us more than we can handle (1 Co 10:13). He decides how deeply (Psa. 80:5; Isa. 9:1; Jer. 46:28) and how long (Gen. 15:13, 14; Num. 14:33; Isa. 10:25; Jer. 29:10) we suffer. Our suffering in Christ is meaningful (Acts 9:16; Rom. 8:17–23, 26; 1 Cor. 4:12, 13; 2 Cor. 1:7; 2 Cor. 4:11–18; Phil. 1:29; Phil. 2:27–30; Phil. 3:10; Col. 1:24; 2 Thess. 1:4, 5; 2 Tim. 2:12; Jas. 5:10; 1 Pet. 4:13, 14; 1 Pet. 5:10).
