"Nursing Home ministry is one of the most challenging fields. Visiting or ministering the nursing home at times is not always easy, still it is a time when you can leave your troubles behind and to tend to the troubles of those you visit or care for. There you may need to shout into deaf ears, look into blind eyes, and to hold hands with someone who isn't physically attractive, but look at it this way, “To the least of these” Matthew 25:40 and “Compassion” Luke 10:34-35."

Visiting nursing homes is hard.  You have no choice but to be reminded of your own mortality.  Families used to care for the sick and dying themselves but now rehabilitation centers and hospice do some of this work.  The elderly have more options but have we lost something?  We do not look at death closely.  It is an issue of avoidance.
