[Media will
make Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith a major campaign issue, Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador
predicts by Callum Borchers] "Representative Raul Labrador of Idaho predicted
Sunday that the press would make Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith a major issue in the
Republican front-runner’s expected general election contest with President
Obama.
Romney’s religion was on the table Easter Sunday during religion-themed
political talk shows, including NBC’s “Meet the Press,” where Labrador was a
guest. Labrador, also a Mormon, was responding to Utah Senator Orrin Hatch’s
statement Tuesday that the Obama campaign is “going to throw the Mormon Church
at him like you can’t believe.”
“I think the media is going to do that for the Obama campaign,” Labrador said.
As evidence, Labrador cited “nasty things” said Tuesday by MSNBC host Lawrence
O’Donnell.
“Mormonism was created by a guy in upstate New York in 1830 when he got caught
having sex with the maid and explained to his wife that God told him to do it,”
O’Donnell said on his show. “Forty-eight wives later, Joseph Smith’s lifestyle
was completely sanctified in the religion he invented to go with it. Which Mitt
Romney says he believes.”
The official website of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints states
that “at certain times and for His specific purposes, God, through His prophets,
has directed the practice of plural marriage,” but notes that the church
officially ended its endorsement of polygamy in 1890.
A Quinnipiac poll last year showed 29 percent of Republicans and 46 percent of
Democrats are uncomfortable with the prospect of a Mormon president..." Full

Romney Quickly Shoots Down Audience Member’s Question About Book Of Mormon
Response to comment [from a Christian]: "...I would have far fewer problems with Gov. Romney if he had been more Mormon in his public life, not less."
Would you have said that in 1857. I agree that we should not have a religious litmus test for presidential candidates. Anyone can claim to be a Christian. Mormons do it every day. We need to know what the Bible teaches to differentiate truth from error (Ga 5:9).
"Looking at my calendar, it's 2012; there's a world of difference between America in 1857 and today."

"Yes, evil is down to a fine science in today's America. Care to discuss the differences between the America of 1857 and 2012 now?"
I am referring
to the The Mountain Meadows massacre of 1857. Wonder if Romney would say
"next question" again if someone brought that up.
