School Scare

A poll run by Penn State University* reveals that one in eight high-school biology teachers covers creation or intelligent design in a positive light. According to the survey, teachers who hold creationist or intelligent design beliefs spend much less time teaching evolution than instructors who believe in evolution.

While this news is encouraging, the poll may have stirred up the educational establishment to crack down on dissent and to tighten teaching standards to promote evolution education with increased fervor.

Despite reports to the contrary, most creation groups do not endorse legislation that would force educators to teach creation. Educators would probably misrepresent creation or intelligent design, if forced to teach them. On the other hand, it makes sense to expect every teacher who is serious about science education to discuss the main problems with evolution.
