Sharia law: Appeals court won't stop Hillsborough judge from considering Islamic law

[Appeals court won't stop Hillsborough judge from considering Islamic law By William R. Levesque, Times Staff Writer] "Tampa--A Florida appeals court appears to have cleared the way for a Hillsborough judge to use Islamic law to decide a key issue in a lawsuit involving a local mosque.

In a case that has attracted national attention, the 2nd District Court of Appeal on Friday denied without comment a petition to prevent Judge Richard Nielsen from invoking Islamic law.

The petition, filed by the Islamic Education Center of Tampa, contested a March ruling by Nielsen announcing his intent to use "ecclesiastical Islamic law" in the case..." Full text:

Do not follow other gods that lead you to your own destruction (Jer 7:6).

Response to comment [from an atheist]: "I can't think of any good reason that a court should be able to consider Sharia."

I can (Re 13:17).

Do your thinking on this side of the grave (
Isa 1:18).

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "I'm not American, so I don't know the ins-and-outs of American law, but I'm British..."

I'm sorry. Austin Powers

"...and have an interest in law (and am planning on becoming a lawyer)..."

Don't you call lawyers solicitors? We call them something else here.

"...and there have been similar controversies revolving Sharia law in the UK. As with in the UK, the controversies have been entirely based on misconceptions as to the role of Sharia law..."

You've lost your great nation. We aren't interesting in doing the same (Jer 7:6).

"Both the US and the UK are common law countries, relying on tradition and precedent..."

Based on Christianity. Your last great queen honored the Lord.

"This means that if two parties made an agreement according to Sharia law, and this agreement didn't break any existing American laws, it was legally sound..."

Objective truth comes from God's word. We do not look to uninspired texts or false pagan moon gods for answers.

"...Second, the USA is a secular country..."

Secular nation.  Religious people.

"Whilst I believe that in a perfect world, of course every decision would be made according to Scripture, we don't live in that world..."

Your point? Jer 48:10

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "So if this was a dispute about whether you'd fixed my bike in as set forth in the bike-fixing manual, you'd tell the court not to look at the manual, but look at your preferred scripture to decide if the bike had been fixed as the manual instructed? Or do you count the bike-fixing manual as an inspired text?"

I do not believe that bike-fixing manuals are inspired.

[So? ] "Thank you for explaining so succinctly. I appreciate it."

I let my cat walk across the keyboard to respond to you. Nu 22:28

"Maybe you should just let him/her post for you."

I thought her comment was more profound than yours.

"I wasn't trying to be profound. I was asking a question."

What question was that?

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "We're [copying] England..."

And Greece.

Response to comment [from other]: "So you worship this Darrell Ferguson character? He's your omniscient deity..."

No.

Christians (
1 John 1:7) have fellowship (1 John 1:3, Ps. 133:1–3, Ac 2:42, 1 Pet. 3:8).
