“True love waits.”
“If he loves you, he’ll take ‘no’ for an answer.”
“If she cares about you, she won’t tempt you.”
Now it’s you. No more of these hypothetical situations. This is not a drill.
You’re not sitting in some classroom being told what you should do when you’re older. No longer is it a vague possibility. You’re got the opportunity to be sexually active—now. The idea of sex prior to being married used to be an obvious “no-no.” It would be out of the question.
Well, if it’s out of the question, why do you find yourself weighing the consequences?
Aren’t you like Daniel, that guy in the Bible who “...purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself...” long before he had the opportunity to do so (cf. Daniel 1:8)? You thought this decision was made, and it was—but that was before opportunity knocked.
Daniel? Your logic is more like that of Eve—the first woman that God created on Day 6 of Creation week. You know it’s forbidden, but you can almost feel the sensual gratification. You ache to know the answers to so many things you’ve always wondered about sex. “You will not surely die,” says a voice that only you can hear.
What a lie! Did Adam and Eve die right away? Part of them did. Not every sexually active teen will immediately find themselves on death’s dark door as a result of their sin ... but part of them still dies.
From this day forward, the choice is yours. You can be a Daniel, purposing in your life to try to make choices that honor God and benefit you every time. Find hope and answers to guide you in purity for the rest of your life.
The alternative is as stupid as listening to a talking snake.
