“Thank God for Evolution”
The phrase “thank God for evolution” and variations are catching on. Perhaps it’s due to self-described “evolutionary evangelist” Michael Dowd, who travels the U.S. and promotes the idea that God used evolution to bring about life.
Well-known actor Matthew McConaughey, exulting in his girlfriend’s pregnancy, proclaimed on his website, “God bless evolution.”1 He went on to describe the pregnancy as a “miracle,” adding that it was a “gift from God.” He also asked for the prayers of his fans.
McConaughey is one more example of a person who attempts to force two incompatible beliefs—God and evolution—into one worldview. It is increasingly popular to promote evolution in a sanitized, sentimental manner, though evolution requires millions of years of brutal and bloody death.
