Continuing with our text today, we find that Christ has His place at the right hand of the Majesty on high. His place on the throne has not only been established from before time, but has been gloriously confirmed in His exaltation after suffering on the Cross. The Christ who suffered is the exalted one.

Christ’s exaltation has great benefit and significance for those who follow Him. Paul wrote to Timothy about what it takes for a person to follow Christ. We will be subject to great suffering and persecution in this world for the sake of Christ (2 Timothy 3:12). But we should always remember one important fact: “If we endure, we shall also reign with Him” (1 Timothy 2:12). If we suffer for the sake of Christ, we shall also reign with Christ. He has all authority to offer this because He suffered, died, rose and is exalted in the heavenly place at the right hand of the Father.

Christ’s exaltation should be the comfort of every Christian. He has all authority in heaven and earth to promise us an exaltation that takes part in His own. We shall be with Him in glory because we have received Jesus Christ in our life. He has ownership of our life, and therefore we are given an inheritance that shares in the glory He owns. This should give believers great confidence when thinking about suffering.

Romans 8 tells us that no height, depth, power, principality, or any created thing can keep us from the love of God. Because of His infinite love, those who are in Christ will be glorified with Him (1 Peter 4:13). Just as the exaltation of Jesus Christ is completely secure, so it is for those who are in Christ—nothing can stop our coming glory with Him, and no accuser can change God’s mind. Jesus has suffered in our place and conquered our sin. In light of our future exaltation with Christ, no suffering in this world can be too harsh for a Christian.

Sadly, many people in this world follow men who are still in the grave, who have not been exalted and have no power over death.
