[What If People Deny the Truth? Biblical Authority Devotional: Infallibility and Inerrancy of Scripture, Part 13 by Erik Lutz] In recent years, it has become common for people to simultaneously believe in two opposite ideas as being equally “true.” You have probably heard someone make a statement such as, “That might be true for you, but I have a different truth.” The problem with this type of statement is that it is based on a redefinition of “truth.” The foundation of logic—God’s unchanging Word—has been replaced in our modern culture with man’s opinions and this idea of relativism (i.e., truth depends on the individual).
Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines truth as “the state of being the case.” In other words, if something is true then it cannot also be false, and vice versa—which agrees with Scripture because God (who is Truth) can’t deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13). The laws of physics, mathematics, and logic all stem from truth—without which the world makes no sense. Truth is inherently exclusive.
For example, atheists claim there is no God, no purpose in life, and no afterlife, but Christians (who believe the absolute authority of the Bible) believe that God created everything, He has a purpose in everything, and every person will live forever in heaven or hell. According to sound, biblically-founded logic, these two worldviews (i.e., belief systems) cannot both be true, because God cannot both exist and not exist at the same time (that’s the law of non-contradiction).
As we see in today’s verse, people suppress the truth because they don’t want to serve God. But they cannot claim ignorance because the passage continues, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made . . . so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20, emphasis mine). Twice in the book of Proverbs we are warned, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12, 16:25).
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if people deny or suppress the truth of God’s Word. In the end, everyone will come face to face with Truth—Jesus Christ—and every knee will bow to Him (Isaiah 45:23; Philippians 2:10–11). Jesus said, “And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life” (Matthew 25:46). There will be no doubters on that final day. No one will be able to deny God’s absolute, infallible truth.http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/2010/07/26/deny-truth
