Give Your Life to Jesus

[Mocking those who say give your life to Jesus]
Ps 37:5 KJV
andyc
Yeah I know. Giving your life to Jesus is such a drag. Going to church is a
drag. Singing, hymns, praying, giving, fasting--why not just trash all
that: live for yourself, enjoy life, eat, drink, and be merry?
"Ouch."

I won't limit Jesus' power by telling him to constantly cleanse me, which is
wrong...
1 Jn 1:7
Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my
feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me [John
13:8].
"What did our Lord mean by that? He meant that without
this washing there can be no fellowship with Him. This is the Passover Feast
which speaks of His death. He arose from the Passover Feast which speaks of His
rising in resurrection and going back to heaven. He is girded with the towel of
service and He is saying to us, “If I don’t wash you, you’ll have no part with
me.” You cannot have fellowship with him, service with Him, without the washing.
How does Christ wash us today? “Wherewithal shall a
young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word” (Ps.
119:9). “Now ye are clean through the word which I
have spoken unto you” (John
15:3). “… even as Christ also loved the church,
and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing
of water by the word” (Eph.
5:25–26). It is the Word of God that will keep the
believer clean. And when we sin, how are we cleansed? “If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness” (1
John 1:9). Too many people treat sin as a light
matter. My friend, may I say to you, the feet speak of the walk, and when you
and I become disobedient, we are not walking in His way. That is sin, and that
needs to be confessed." McGee, J. V. (1991). Thru the Bible commentary: The
Gospels (John 11-21) (electronic ed., Vol. 39, p. 59). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
"Jn 13:6–10 These proceedings embarrassed all of the
disciples. While others remained silent, Peter, perhaps on behalf of others (see
Matt. 16:13–23), spoke up in indignation that Jesus would stoop so low as to
wash his feet. He failed to see beyond the humble service itself to the
symbolism of spiritual cleansing involved (v. 7; cf. 1 John 1:7–9). Jesus’
response made the real point of His actions clear: Unless the Lamb of God
cleanses a person’s sin (i.e., as portrayed in the symbolism of washing), one
can have no part with Him." MacArthur, J., Jr. (Ed.). (1997). The MacArthur
Study Bible (electronic ed., p. 1611). Nashville, TN: Word Pub.

For if we sin willfully after we have received the

for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and
fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Anyone
who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the
testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse
punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who
has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of
the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and
insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said,
“Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again,
“The Lord will judge His people.” It is a fearful thing to
fall into the hands of the living God (
Heb
10:26–31).

I know I'm way late to the party, here (on this thread),
but I think the idea of "giving one's self to God" is a
very effective conceptual way of letting go of our own
natural selfishness and self-centered fear that we won't
get what we need and want, or that we aren't good enough
or deserving enough to get what we need and want.
This practice of turning that fear and selfishness over
to God is a pathway to "salvation" in the sense that it
helps save us from ourselves. Which is something most of
us could use some saving from, most of the time.

Which gospel does Adrian Rogers preach?
You thought there were two?
James, also written to you,
said you must be a doer of the word and not a hearer only (Jas
1:22). Faith without works is dead (Jas
2:14-26). If you bear no fruits of
righteousness (Mt
7:20),
either your conversion was not real (more common) or you've walked away
from the faith altogether and have broken fellowship with the Lord (2
Pe 2:21-22).
Our Sabbath rest is in the Lord (Lk
6:5). We are saved
unto good
works (Eph
2:10). We work not out of fear but out of
love (Rom.
9:31,
32,
1 Jn 4:19).
You greasy grace teachers1
omit repentance. God gives us grace--to repent (2
Ti 2:25). God saves us from--our sin (Mt
1:21). God forgives us
and then
wipes away our sin (Ro
6:18).
Don't be claiming he's removed your sins as
far from us as the east is from the west (Ps
103:12) or buried them in the sea of his
forgetfulness (Mic
7:19) when you're still committing them.
Pray tell how can he forgive you when you've:
not repented (Ac
8:22), said you're sorry (Ac
2:37,
38,
2 Cor. 7:9,
10), turned from your wicked ways (Ac
9:35)? Paul said repent turn to the living
God (2
Co 6:14-7:1). Peter said repent (Ac
3:19) and by grace you are saved (1
Pe 1:5).
Ask the Lord into your heart, give you life to
Jesus, receive God's mercy--however you want to phrase it
(Heb
4:12)--get right with God is the point.
You greasy grace teachers who leave out repentance,
you're not going in the rapture (Mal
4:4-6,
Mt 24:14).
God is holy (Is.
11:4,
5). You are not (Ro
3:10). Receive God's mercy (Ac
26:18).
If you think you can: walk down and aisle,
sign a card, pray a prayer--live like the devil--
and still go to heaven, you're mistaken (Mal
4:4-6,
Mt 24:14).
