Growing Confusion Within Catholicism
[Growing
Confusion Within Catholicism
Proclaiming the Gospel Ministries]
"Cardinal Raymond Burke denied that
he was "defying" the pope's
authority, but he said there's "a
growing confusion about what the
Church really teaches." In an
interview with Ireland's state
broadcaster, Burke said it is "not
helpful...to have this broad
discussion" on issues of
homosexuality, divorce and
remarriage and put them to a vote."
Cardinal Burke was careful to
explain that the pope does not have
the power to change Catholic
teaching. He refused to comment on
whether this pontificate is "in
serious trouble" because of Pope
Francis' silence, but restated his
previous assertion that "the matter
has to be clarified and now."

Response to comment [from a Catholic]: "No. This is the same confusion that has prevailed within the church for the past 40 or so years."

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "If this Cardinal is confused, perhaps he needs to spend some time on retreat, studying and praying."
That's the last thing
we want (Mt 7:20).
