If the God of Joshua told you to slit a baby's throat, would you?

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "You are bring unnecessarily disruptive and you need to tone it down."

This type of hostility is common among atheists. They hate this God that they don't believe in.

See:

God Commands Abraham to offer Isaac J. Vernon McGee

"Yet such a response is a little less common among those who identify themselves as "Protestant Christian"."

"Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car." ~ G.K. Chesterton

ChristNow is hostile toward God. He insinuates that he is evil (Jas 1:13). Most of these hostilities come from a misunderstanding of God. It's our job to get to know him.

God is good and holy. When we doubt that, we are in error. He does not cease being good Ps 25:8; Na 1:7; Mt 19:17 and holy (Ps 22:3; Jn 17:11).

Take a look at
his threads. I have heard these same questions from atheists in the blogosphere. There is nothing wrong with asking the questions. Hopefully, he will study scripture and get to know the God of the bible as he seeks answers.

Response to comment [from a Christian]: "What's mysterious or unknowable about him saying "I do create evil"? Nothing.  What's mysterious or unknowable about it being evil for him to have ordered the murder of infants? Nothing..."

Evil is that which is opposed to good.

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil. I the Lord do all these things [Isa. 45:7].
"Zoroastrianism began in Persia. It teaches that Mazda is the god of light. God says He creates light, and that it is no god. The Persians were getting very close to the truth. Many have wondered why they worshiped one god in the midst of idolatry. Well, you must remember that they came in contact with the nation Israel, and Israel was a witness to the world. In Zoroastrianism darkness was Ahriman, the god of evil. God takes responsibility for creating the darkness also.
“And create evil”—the word evil does not mean wickedness in this instance, but rather “sorrow, difficulties, or tragedies”—those things which are the fruit of evil, the fruit of sin. This is the Old Testament way of saying, “The wages of sin is death …” (Rom. 6:23). If you indulge in sin, there will be a payday for it!
By the way, let me introduce something else at this point, since we are living in a day when it is said that good and evil are relative terms, that whatever you think is good, is good. The argument is put forth: The Bible says “Thou shalt not kill” and “Thou shalt not steal” (Exod 20:13, 15), But what is the Bible? Who should obey it? Or why should we listen to the God of the Bible?
The Lord has another very cogent argument. God says that if you indulge in sin, you will find that sin has its payday. It pays a full wage, by the way. This is what God is saying through Isaiah. God has so created the universe that when you break over the bounds that He has set, you don’t need a judge, a hangman’s noose, or an electric chair; God will take care of it.
He says, therefore, that He is the One who creates light and darkness. He is answering Zoroastrianism which worshiped the god of light. God says, “I want you to know that light is no god; I created it.”"

Response to comment [from a Christian]: Who are you to demand such an answer?  Who is christnow to do the same? This isn't about whether or not anyone would actually carry out the act. It is about christnow and the rest of you pushing us into a corner with a hypothetical which will never come to pass to make us look like monsters.

ChristNow is no Christian. Atheists ask these types of questions all day long. Let them ask. God remains good (Ps 25:8; Na 1:7; Mt 19:17) and holy (Ps 22:3; Jn 17:11).

"...God has enemies. He commanded His children to defeat those enemies so that they would not rise up against Him in the future. This is an act of His mercy toward His people. When His children disobey, it harms them later.

People think that they are nicer than God (e.g. against the death penalty or acceptance of homosexuality, etc.). When God says do something, He means to help yourself. When God says don’t do something, He means don’t hurt yourself..." full text:

We never need to apologize for obeying God (
Deut 13:4, Heb 11:6). We also don't need to ban the God-haters for challenging us (2 Tim. 2:15; Jas. 1:18).

Response to comment [from an atheist]: [Delmar quote: Has there never been an event that your parents or some other person told you about, that you believed solely on the credibility of the person who witnessed it?] "Do you mean like Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny?"

Ps 53:1

[Delmar quote: I have answered the question and I have explained to the best of my ability. You don't find my explanation to be reasonable.] "You've done a grand job of evasion..."

Pr 26:4

God is good (Ps 25:8; Na 1:7; Mt 19:17).

"Is your deity able to stop evil but not willing?...Is your deity able and willing to stop evil? Then why is there evil?"

Mommy, why is there a spaghetti monster under my bed? Ge 1:31

Response to comment [from a Christian]:

Angel4Truth: "...[I]f you knew with 100 percent certainty what Hitler would do in his lifetime, would you kill that infant?"

Silent Hunter: "No."

Maybe he would kill Hitler if a spaghetti monster told him to.

If the God of Joshua told you to slit a baby's throat, would you?
