Roman Catholic Bishop Fulton Sheen believed Muslims would be converted to
Catholicism through the veneration of Mary, the Mother of God. In his 1952 book,
The World's First Love, this was his line of argument: The Koran has many
passages concerning the Blessed Virgin. The Koran believes in her Immaculate
Conception and her Virgin Birth. Sheen said missionaries to the Moslems will be
successful in the measure that they preach Our Lady of Fatima. Because the
Moslems have a devotion to Mary, our missionaries should be satisfied merely to
expand and to develop that devotion.
