Archaeoraptor: featured dinosaur from National Geographic doesn’t fly
Oopsie.
"A fossil discovered in 1999 was one of many claimed by a number of scientists
and promoted by the media, especially National Geographic, to be a feathered
dinosaur...Upon further examination by various experts, it was determined that
the fossil was actually a fraud. The apparent difference in the body and tail
were actually different— from two different organisms. Despite the fact that
this and other “feathered dinosaurs” have been shown to be fakes or
misinterpretations, the media and many scientists are
still claiming feathers should be shown on fossils that show no evidence of
feathers."

I tend to think angels were created soon (not thousands of
years) before man. What'cha think?
"Although not mentioned in Genesis
1, it is probable that another act of creation took place on this first day.
Sometime prior to the third day of creation, a multitude of angels had been
created, since they were present when the “foundations of the earth” were
laid—probably a reference to the establishment of solid land surfaces on the
earth (Job 38:4–7). It is impossible that they could have existed before the
creation of the physical universe itself, since their sphere of operation is
in this universe and their very purpose is to minister to the “heirs of
salvation” (Hebrews 1:14). Angels are called the “host of heaven,” and so
could not have been created before the existence of heaven.
Psalm 104 (verses 2–5) says that
angels were made as spirits after the materialization of God’s light-arrayed
presence in the stretched-out heavens, but prior to the laying of the solid
foundations of the land. Therefore, although angels are not mentioned as
such at this point in Genesis, their spiritual presence as fascinated
observers at the remaining acts of creation and formation may certainly be
inferred."

And that prophet, or that

which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the

"Notice that any false prophet who
attempted to take the people into some false cult or false religion was to
be stoned to death. Does that sound extreme? Does that sound severe? Such a
false prophet is like a cancer, and a cancer must be cut out as soon as
possible—I know that from personal experience. God here is the Great
Physician and He says the cancer must be cut out from among His people.
This reveals the mind of God
concerning false prophets who lead the people to false gods and false
religion. I can remember when I was a boy that the reading of the Bible in
the schoolroom was a normal procedure. I don’t think it was particularly
meaningful to me at that time, yet I understood it was the Word of God and
that impressed me. Today we have let the unbeliever come in, the cults, and
those who oppose Christianity and the Bible, and they have taken over so
that Bible reading and prayer are no longer permitted in public schools.
God laid down these rules to
prevent this from happening in Israel. If one appeared in Israel who was
attempting to take God’s people away from the worship of God, that person
was to be put to death.
Some soft–hearted and soft–headed
folk will say this is too extreme. God understood how terrible it would be
if false prophets were permitted to multiply and to lead Israel into
idolatry. History reveals that Israel did not obey God and they did permit
this to happen. If you want to know how bad it was for God’s people in that
day, read the story of Ahab and Jezebel who plunged God’s people into
idolatry. This brought the judgment of God upon them so that eventually the
northern kingdom was carried into captivity. That is how serious it is."

Some questions must be answered:
* Can we know there is a God? Is there a basis for right

apologists Dr. Norman Geisler and Alex McFarland (President of Southern
Evangelical Seminary) look at the big questions of life.
* Cosmological argument:
• Everything that had a beginning has a cause.
• The universe had a beginning.
• Therefore, the universe had a cause.
Design argument:
• Every design has a designer.
• The universe—and life—has a highly complex design.
• Therefore, there is a Great Designer.
Moral argument
• Moral laws require a lawgiver
• Absolute moral laws exist.

There are a few questions to answer:
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for
every good work (Ti 3:16-17, NKJV)."
* The Bible is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
* The Bible is made up of 66 different books that were written over 1600 years
(from approximately 1500 BC to AD 100) by more than 40 kings, prophets, leaders,
and followers of Jesus. The Old Testament has 39 books (written approximately
1500-400 BC). The New Testament has 27 books (written approximately AD 45-100).
The Hebrew Bible has the same text as the English Bible's Old Testament, but
divides an and arranges it differently.
* The Old Testament was written mainly in Hebrew, with some Aramaic. The New
Testament was written in Greek.
* The books of the Bible were collected and arranged and recognized as inspired
sacred authority by councils of rabbis and councils of church leaders based on
careful guidelines.
* Before the printing press was invented, the Bible was copied by hand. the
Bible was copied very accurately, in many cases by special scribes who developed
intricate methods of counting words and letter to insure that no error had been
made.
* The Bible was the first book ever printed on the printing press with moveable
type (Gutenberg Press, 1455, Latin Bible).
* There is much evidence that the Bible we have today is remarkably true to the
original writings. Of the thousands of copies made by hand before AD 1500, more
than 5,300 Greek manuscripts from the New Testament alone still exist today. The
test of the Bible is better preserved than the writings of Caesar, Plato, or
Aristotle.
* The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls confirmed the astonishing reliability of
some of the copies of the Old testament made over the years. Although some
spelling variations exist, no variation affects basic Bible doctrines.
* As the Bible was carried to other countries, it was translated into the common
language of the people by scholars who wanted to know God's Word. Today there
are still 2,000 groups with no Bible in their own language.
* By AD 200, the Bible was translated into seven languages; by AD 500, 13
languages; by AD 900, 17 languages; by AD 1400, 28 languages; by 1800, 57
languages; by 1900, 537 languages; by 1980, 1,100 languages...

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against
Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of
God [2
Sam. 6:6–7].
“This is a pretty serious situation. The ark was on the cart, and the oxen were
shaking the cart. When Uzzah tried to steady the ark with his hand, the Lord
smote him and he died. Some might say that it was a small breach of conduct for
such extreme punishment. Uzzah’s death so affected David that he stopped the
procession and left the ark in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. David was
shaken and angry with the Lord. The Lord was angry, too. God was angry because
David was moving the ark in the wrong way.”

Response to comment [from a "Christian"]: "The word "spirit" in the Old
Testament..."
We know how you disdain Henry Morris and try to attack
him personally. However, in the Christian community he is highly
respected.
“The Spirit of God moved”
"...[T]he divine name Elohim
suggests that God is both a unity and a plurality, and that the tri-universe
created by God probably reflects the tri-une nature of the Godhead. At this
point, a particular person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit, is seen in
action.
The word “Spirit” is the Hebrew
ruach,
which is also the word for “wind” and “breath.” The context determines which
is the correct meaning in any given instance. In Genesis 1:2, there is no
doubt that the creative activity requires not a wind but the person of God
Himself. Since the universe was everywhere in need of activation, that
person of the Godhead who is both omnipresent and energizing is
appropriately mentioned as working in the creation at this point.
This activity of the Holy Spirit is
called that of “moving” in the presence of the waters. The word “moved”
(Hebrew rachaph)
occurs only three times in the Old Testament, the other two being translated
“shake” (Jeremiah 23:9) and “fluttereth” (Deuteronomy 32:11), respectively.
Some commentators relate the word particularly to the hovering of a mother
hen over her chicks. In any case, the idea seems to be mainly that of a
rapid back and forth motion.
In modern scientific terminology,
the best translation would probably be “vibrated.” If the universe is to be
energized, there must be an Energizer. If it is to be set in motion, there
must be a Prime Mover.
It is significant that the
transmission of energy in the operations of the cosmos is in the form of
waves—light waves, heat waves, sound waves, and so forth. In fact (except
for the nuclear forces which are involved in the structure of matter
itself), there are only two fundamental types of forces that operate on
matter—the gravitational forces and the forces of the electromagnetic
spectrum. All are associated with “fields” of activity and with transmission
by wave motion.
Waves are typically rapid back and
forth movements and they are normally produced by the vibratory motion of a
wave generator of some kind. Energy cannot create itself. It is most
appropriate that the first impartation of energy to the universe is
described as the “vibrating” movement of the Spirit of God Himself.
As the outflowing energy from God’s
omnipresent Spirit began to flow outward and to permeate the cosmos,
gravitational forces were activated and water and earth particles came
together to form a great sphere moving through space. Other such particles
would soon come together also to form sun, moon, and stars throughout the
universe. There was now a “compass” on the face of the deep, and the
formless earth had assumed the beautiful form of a perfect sphere. It was
now ready for light and heat and other forms of enlivening energy.
There is another “moving” of the
Spirit of God mentioned in the Bible. “For the prophecy came not in old time
by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy
Ghost” (2 Peter 1:21). Here the word “moved” is the Greek
phero,
which in fact is used in the Septuagint as the translation of “moved” in
Genesis 1:2. As the Holy Spirit energized the primeval universe, to bring
form and life to God’s creation, so He later empowered God’s prophets, to
bring beauty and spiritual life to His new creation, through the energizing
Word which they inscripturated."

[An excerpt: Who is being
divisive? by Bodie Hodge] "Far too often, people
have the wrong impression about what it means to be
divisive. Those who are divisive are those who are
against the clear teachings of the Bible. Paul made this
clear in his letter to the Christians in Rome.
Now I urge you, brethren, note
those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to
the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For
those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus
Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and
flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple (Romans
16:17–18).
Jude also confirmed that
unbiblical beliefs cause divisions:
But you, beloved, remember the
words which were spoken before by the apostles of
our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there
would be mockers in the last time who would walk
according to their own ungodly lusts. These are
sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the
Spirit (Jude
1:17–19).
Jude wrote that these divisions
are caused by sensual, or worldly minded, beliefs. This
should serve as a warning to those who accept man-made
ideas that are opposed to the clear teachings of
Scripture.
What are some of those clear
teachings of Scripture?
- Sin entered the world
through one man, and death through sin (Genesis
2:17,
3:17;
Romans 5:12).
- Man and animals were
originally vegetarian (Genesis
1:29–30).
- The week is composed of
seven normal-length days (Genesis
1:1–2:4;
Exodus 20:11).
- All people are descendants
of Adam and Eve (Genesis
1:26–28,
3:20).
- People began to wear
clothing after sin entered the world (Genesis
3:7,
21).
- Thorns and thistles
resulted from the curse God placed on His creation
after sin entered the world (Genesis
3:18).
- The flood of Noah’s day
was global in extent (Genesis
6–8).
These are not new
doctrines—Paul, the other apostles, and Christ himself
accepted these teachings. They (and biblical
creationists today) understood that Genesis is a record
of actual historical events. As a corollary of this,
biblical creationists accept, based on careful study of
the Bible, that the earth is thousands of years old (not
billions).
The questioning of these
teachings by many in the Church began in earnest around
two hundred years ago. This was not due to a
reexamination of Scripture, but rather because the
culture had begun to teach an earth history of “millions
of years.” The acceptance of the culture’s ideas about
the past has led to the reinterpretation of Genesis to
fit with these man-made ideas. Some of these
reinterpretations are the framework hypotheses,
gap theory, progressive creation, and
theistic evolution.
Each of these views attempts to
combine the secular/evolutionary view of millions of
years with the biblical view of history. In doing so,
these views reject one or more of the clear teachings
listed above..." See:
